Dr. Timothy M. Black is a celebrated international career music educator and conductor, having spent the 12 years living and teaching choral music, theory and music technology in Okinawa, Japan. In addition to being the 2014 Washington State SJMEA High School Honor Choir conductor, he was a frequent clinician and festival conductor throughout Japan, South Korea, Guam, Germany, Italy and South Africa, where he founded the South African Music Technology Project (SAMTP) and guest-lectured at the University of Pretoria.
Dr. Black sang, played trumpet and coordinated auditions for the USAF during operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. After receiving his B.A. in Choral Music Education from Whitworth College in Spokane, WA, Mr. Black spent three years teaching K-12 music on the Nez Perce Indian Reservation in Kamiah, Idaho. While receiving his M.M. in Choral Conducting from the University of Missouri-Kansas City's conservatory of music with legendary conductor, Dr. Eph Ehly, Tim sang and recorded with the Kansas City Chorale under the direction of grammy-winning conductor, Charles Bruffy. He earned his DMA in Music Education at Boston University and published his Doctoral Dissertation on Intercultural Collaborations through activities in Music Education, in July, 2015. Dr. Black is now scheduling his choral workshops throughout Europe for the Summer of 2018.
Currently, Tim conducts the Bellingham Community Chorus, Whatcom County's premiere women's ensemble, Allegra , the United Church of Ferndale choir, and is an Elementary Music Specialist for the Bellingham School District. Tim is the Artistic Director for Bellingham Music Enrichment Project, a 501c3 non-profit arts organization dedicated to "Building Community through Musical Artistry". A Washington State native, he lives in Bellingham with his wife of 28 years, Amy. Their three grown, musical children, Josh, Benjamin and Mikayla as well as their two grand-daughters, Anzoleta and Alexandria also live in the Pacific-NW.
